To all the cleansing balms I’ve loved before…

I’m sorry, it’s not you, it’s me. I’ve found my one true love in the Deviant Cleansing Concentrate and now I just can’t bring myself to dabble with any of you anymore.

I think you can all tell that I’m in love with this cleansing balm so let’s dive into the review of the Deviant Cleansing Concentrate.

BRAND: Deviant – a beautiful British brand co-founded by Natalie Smyth, who is just the loveliest person!

PRODUCT: Cleansing Concentrate

INGREDIENTS: See bottom of page.

Features & Key Ingredients?

A decadent balm-to-milk cleanser that effortlessly removes makeup, SPF and daily impurities, without stripping the skin of its protective moisturising factors. The Cleansing Concentrate rinses completely clean, leaving a perfectly balanced canvas for the following steps in your skincare ritual.

Key Ingredients:

  • Hemp and Camellia Seed soften congestion and environmental debris
  • Sacha Inchi, Blueberry and Borage soothe against oxidative-stress caused by extrinsic factors.

I’ve Got *Insert Skin Type Here* Skin, Can I use It?

The Cleansing Concentrate is suitable for all skin types. Particularly suitable for stressed complexions with sensitivity, dullness and congestion due to the omission of synthetic fragrance and essential oils.

My Experience With This Product?

I could sit here and describe how beautiful this earthy-smelling, decadent cleansing balm is but honestly, just try it! If you can, just give it a go! It really is a heavenly experience. I actually really look forward to double cleansing each night just so that I can use the Cleansing Concentrate.

Natalie Smyth, the co-founder of Deviant says “Cleansing in the evening (particularly after a long day) can at times feel like a burden. Take a moment and allow the Cleansing Concentrate to transform a tedious task into a ritual. Light a candle for olfactory pleasure. Breathe. Take some time to thoroughly massage the skin as to stimulate blood circulation. This moment is for you.”

How beautiful is that?! During the 2021 lockdown, I really got into taking the time to do my morning and evening skincare routines and I really think what Natalie says has had a big impact on how I view taking the time to cleanse! No longer do I rush to just get it done, instead I make sure I carve out the time for myself to just sit and enjoy using this cleanser and my other skincare products. Admittedly I don’t and can’t do it every night but when I can, I fully immerse myself in the process.

To summarise, words cannot describe how beautiful this cleansing balm is. It’s not just the product but it’s the spirit behind the brand and the way it makes you feel. From the packaging it’s housed in to the unboxing experience you get when it arrives at your front door, it’s just simply beautiful.

This cleansing balm has never caused any breakouts in my acne-prone skin. If anything it helps to soothe any breakouts and over the long term has helped in reducing their numbers (alongside other acne fighting products!).

How Do I Use This Product?

Deviant says; With dry hands, take a small amount of cleanser and massage thoroughly into dry skin to break down makeup, SPF and daily impurities. To remove, add a splash of water and continue to massage the skin to emulsify the cleanser. Proceed to rinse with lukewarm water.

They also say that whilst the Cleansing Concentrate has been designed as a ‘first step’ cleanse, it can absolutely be used in the morning (particularly if you have drier skin) and many of our customers do this – there really are no ‘rules’ in skincare. Pro tip: You can leave the Cleansing Concentrate on for 5-20 minutes for a flash-mask!

I personally use it as a first cleanse, as Deviant suggest. I do prefer to remove my makeup with some micellar water first though and then I go in with some of the Deviant Cleansing Concentrate to remove any leftover makeup/SPF and give myself a facial massage at the same time, for a good 10 minutes. This is why I prefer to remove my makeup first as I don’t want to just keep rubbing the makeup around my face whilst I massage.

On the nights where I don’t have time to do a facial massage, I don’t bother removing my makeup first as this cleansing balm really does work itself to completely obliterate any traces of makeup and/or SPF!

Gimme The Deets…

50ml = £31
100ml = £46
200ml = £59

I started with the 50ml and now I’m currently using the 100ml. I will no doubt purchase the 200ml one next!

You can only purchase Deviant products from Deviant, directly – SHOP HERE.

POA =  6 months

No special storage required per se but I would say to keep it out of the bathroom as I noticed that the heat from the shower made the balm soften quite a bit.

Stick Or Spin Again?

Stick, stick, stick! I’m IN LOVE with this cleansing balm and that feeling for a product doesn’t come around often when there’s so much temptation about. So, for me this is the one and you most likely won’t see another cleansing balm review from me on here! That’s how strongly I feel about it!

If you get the chance, give this cleansing balm a go. I honestly don’t think you’ll regret it. And if you’ve tried it and the earthy scent wasn’t for you, you may like its sister, the Blue Tansy Cleansing Concentrate (found HERE). It’s currently sold out but Deviant has said that it’s becoming a permanent offering in 2022!

Have you tried anything from Deviant? I’m currently using the Facial Oil and I’ve just bought the Blue Tansy Cleansing Concentrate (before it sold out) and the Gentle Resurfacing Liquid so watch out for reviews on them soon! Let me know your thoughts in the comments section below.

    Do you like this better than the Farmacy one? I’m currently using Farmacy and I’m happy enough with it but have had my eyes on the Deviant one for awhile…

      Hey Ashley!
      I loved the Farmacy one and repurchased it a good 4/5 times but once I’d tried Deviant I found I much preferred it! Mainly because of its buttery texture and the fact it’s fragrance/essential oil free and great for acne prone skin! It’s a different smell completely (more earthy), whereas Farmacy is citrusy and very fragranced but I actually prefer the earthy smell over sweeter ones. Hope you like the Deviant CC if you try it – please do let me know what you think if you give it a go!
